COMPETITION OVERVIEW:

There are a total of 13 different categories being awarded prizes between $500.00 to $1,500.00! Winners from 8 Student Categories ranging from first grade to College/University level will each be awarded with scholarships.*

Students can pick from 1 of 3 Themes, (Conservation, People Who Make a Difference or Best Of Jacksonville).

Professional Artists can enter to be awarded a $1,500.00 grant.

Families can come together and enter to win a cash prize along with a vacation package.

Open Entry individual and group categories allow creative individuals, groups, clubs, and teams an opportunity to express themselves while competing for cash and gift cards.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis.

Art is the foundation for our modern society. It supports, Engineering, Architecture, Manufacturing, Marketing and more. For ideas to grow into something tangible they have to be shared and expressed. Imagine trying to use only words to build a building or only words to describe a prototype for a new product. The Downtown Sidewalk Chalk Contest is an event designed to utilize visual art as the important, practical and powerful communication tool that it is. Art supports the giving of scholarships and grants at this event in every way. It is our mission to foster creative thinking, encourage our creative students, celebrate the amazing talent that is here and make Jacksonville a better community by showing that Art Can Support Education.

SCHEDULE:

8:00am - 10:00am November 13th 2010: CHECK IN for competitors.

10:00am: Competition and Public Mural Begins!

1:30 Activities Begin!

2:00pm: Judging Starts Cast your Vote for your favorite!

3:00: Awards Ceremony! The winners are announced!

4:00pm - 8:30pm: Awards Ceremony Party!

9:00pm - 12:00pm: The After Event Splashdown Party Begins. The tunes change as most families head home. The Landing switches gears and turns into the fun night spot its known for! Music in the courtyard and Art all around! What could be better on a nice fall evening than a stroll along the river to enjoy a whole days worth of creativity!!!

12:00 MIDNIGHT: SPLASH DOWN! Be a part of a very unique closing ceremony! Since chalk art is technically graffiti, at MIDNIGHT everyone is invited to help close the circle by splashing the artwork away! You won't see a party like this anywhere else in Jacksonville! Come be a part of it!
